Paper DVD Sleeves - Are They For You?
Paper
DVD sleeves can be an excellent alternative to regular DVD cases,
although they are not always suitable for everyone's needs
Space Saver
First of all, sleeves will save you a lot of space compared to regular
DVD cases, even slim ones, because they are basically no bigger than
the DVD itself. That means you can store literally hundreds
of DVDs in a sleeve box or rack, or even in a shoe box if you really
wanted to. It's a good idea to get sleeves which have a small
tab on one side of them, which allows you to write the name or details
of the DVD on it. That way you can easily see which DVD is
which without needing to open each sleeve or look at the DVD itself.
Money Saver
Paper DVD sleeves are usually much cheaper than plastic cases, as you
can often get 100 sleeves for less than the price of 10 regular
cases. If budget and costs is important to you, paper sleeves
are well worth considering.
Less Potection
Of course, paper sleeves offer less overall protection for your DVDs
than regular cases do. Shock protection is obviously much
less, so if you drop the whole case or sleeve, the DVD is much more
likely to be damaged if it's in a sleeve than a full plastic
case. And of course if you drop an entire box full of
sleeves, it could be a disaster. Anyone with kids needs to
strongly consider whether sleeves are a good solution for them, and at
a minimum to have somewhere out of reach to store them.
Sleeves also offer less overall protection against dust and other
contaminants, becausse unlike full cases, they do not actually
close. However, you can get additional plastic covers to
protect against this, and also keeping them in a closed box will assist
in keeing your DVDs safe and clean.
