Where to Find Clear DVD Cases

Strangely enough, unlike with CD jewel cases which are almost always made from clear plastic, it's actually not that easy to find clear DVD cases.

DVD Cases are most often made from black plastic. Why black became the standard instead of clear, white, or even green, is something of a mystery, but the fact is that the vast majority of standard DVD cases that you can buy today are black. The Xbox has popularized green cases, Blu-Ray cases are, naturally, blue, and many generic cases come out in white. Clear DVD cases are useful if you don't have or never had the cover for the DVD that you want to store, as the clear case allows you to see straight in to the DVD and see what's inside without having to open it.

Clear DVD cases can also be divided into two categories, those that are completely clear and those that are opaque or tinted. Opaque or tinted clear cases are easier to find and are available almost anywhere online in regular, slim and double varieties. They are available in a wide range of colors as well if you want the tinted varieties or simply in the opaque clear style if you prefer.

Truly clear DVD cases, in the same style as CD jewel cases, are not that common but still they are not too difficult to find either. You'll probably have less choice in terms of brand, style and price than you would if you went for regular black cases, but nonetheless you'll still be able to choose slim or regular style, for example. Also clear DVD cases typically won't cost you any more than regular cases would, so there is no cost problem with them either.

The other alternative if you want clear DVD cases is to use clear CD jewel cases. If you don't have covers and liner notes for your DVDs, there's really no reason not to use jewel cases, as they're usually a bit cheaper, smaller and easier to store than DVD cases. The only downside to them is that they tend to break more easily than DVD cases, so keep that in mind before you buy, but apart from that there is no real reason not to use jewel cases for DVD storage.
